What is your current job and how long have you been doing it for?

I work as an analyst at BWCI Group as part of an actuarial team focusing on pension schemes. I’ve worked at BWCI for 3 years.

What does a typical day at the office look like for you?

My work generally revolves around doing actuarial calculations, checking actuarial calculations and drafting reports for clients. Over the past 6 months I have also started to assist with new business development and marketing.

Some days can be spent entirely with numbers others can be spent emailing and attending meetings. It depends how the day is going as to which I prefer!

If you weren’t doing your current job what would you like to do?

Astronaut. But I’m keeping my options open.

What was your first job?

Compliance assistant for a local stockbroker.

How long have you been involved in YBG and what have you got out of being a member?

I have been a member for 1 year now and helped out with the Christmas parade before joining. The thing I most enjoy is talking to people from other industries outside finance. It’s interesting to learn of all the other great business in Guernsey.

What is your favourite thing to do in Guernsey?

Watching the sea. If I am having a bad day just sitting watching the waves break for 5 minutes makes everything seem better.

Which three people would you have at your dinner table and why?

Queen Elizabeth I – One of the most powerful women in history and the last of the Tudors. She reigned during an interesting point in world history and I always found her life fascinating, I’d be interested to see what she was like.
Michael Palin – I love Monty Python and his travel documentaries always inspired me to find out more about other cultures.
Sundar Pichai – He is the CEO of Google. I’d be interested to see what he thinks the future holds and any tips he has on leadership.
