What is your current job and how long have you been doing it?
I am an Audit Director at BDO Limited and have been in the role since June. I joined BDO in August 2007 as an Audit Senior.
What does a typical day at the office look like for you?
Every day starts with a cappuccino! I catch up with my team and check whether there is anything urgent to deal with and after that may attend client meetings for planning or completion of audits, training sessions, internal meetings or undertake research on more challenging issues. Fortunately so far no day has been typical which makes the job even more enjoyable.
If you weren’t doing your current job what would you like to do?
If working wasn’t about paying the bills I would definitely get involved in the voluntary sector. Either by using the skills I have or learning new ones to assist in the community.
What was your first job?
My first proper job was as a bookkeeper for an accountant who was rather eccentric but was an outstanding mentor. He insisted that I start studying a part time University degree and I am very grateful to him for putting me on the career path that brought me to Guernsey.
What is your role/involvement with YBG?
I have been a member of YBG since 2012 and after returning from a break for maternity leave am now a member of the council.
What is your favourite thing to do in Guernsey?
Taking my 15 month old son to the beach is always a joy to watch the sheer delight as he plays in the rock pools or discovers something new.
Which three people would you have at your dinner table and why?
If I have to be more imaginative than my son, my mom and my husband I would invite:
– David Mitchell, my favourite author who has lived in Japan and has written such original novels that I would enjoy an evening listening to his anecdotes
– Noel Fielding to for his humour and quirkiness
– Michael Palin for his extensive travels and story telling
